BSB riders hail new Snetterton 300 circuit

Wednesday, April 13 2011

MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship contenders got their first opportunity to test on the new Snetterton 300 circuit this morning, with riders already hailing the new redevelopment after the opening session of the day.

Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill was the first BSB rider to walk the track as the circuit work reached completion a few months back and admits he was even more impressed when he lapped the 2.99-mile track this morning. Shane 'Shakey' Byrne was back on track at Snetterton for the first time since 2008 and the former double champion believes the new track will create a whole new spectacle for fans at the BSB round in July. Samsung Crescent Racing's John Hopkins is currently on a level playing field as all the riders learn the track for the first time and admits he likes the variations of fast and slow sections of track.

Hill said: "The new track really is mega to ride. The first session was really a case of learning the new layout and also getting up to speed as we haven't ridden for a few weeks now. This new layout is really fast and it is completely different to when I walked it originally but it really is awesome. It has made Snetterton a fantastic track; it's more physical but the complex section is great and I can't wait for the race here."

Shakey said: "It took a few laps to get into the new layout and it is going to take a bit of learning but so far so good! The team have done an awesome job on the circuit and it is great that MSV have redeveloped the track as it is going to be awesome for the fans. The circuit made for great racing before but now it will be a completely new experience for everyone."

Hopkins said: "I think this circuit is great and for me, we are all on a level playing field ahead of this round as everybody has to learn the track. I hadn't ridden the old layout but this configuration has everything; fast section, slow corners and some real character. I am looking forward to the race here for sure."
