Sunday, September 05 2010

The Classic Motorcycle Racing Club will be celebrating 30 years of competition in Norfolk when it pays a visit to Snetterton on 11/12 September for the Classic Bike Race of Aces.

Many of the original riders, race officials and machines that competed in the inaugural 1980 meeting will come together again three decades later this weekend for a packed programme of 38 solo races, four sidecar races and four classic parade.

A hectic track schedule includes the Classic Racer Syndicate 1300cc National category for pre-1973 bikes, which will see riders vying to get their hands on the coveted Classic Race of Aces Trophy. Gary Thwaites on a 920cc Norton twin and BSA-mounted Cormac Conroy are among the front-runners in this contest.

The Gristwood and Toms sidecars category boasts a grid of almost 30 entrants, including brave pensioners Dennis and Christine Etheridge from Maidstone.

Supporting events include the VJMC 350 post-classics, the Four Counties Insurance 1300 post-classics, 500 Goldstars and 250 Twin Cylinders,
and the occasion will also be marked with a fly-by and display by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on Saturday.
