James Calado leads British F3 Snetterton test

Thursday, February 25 2010

21-year-old James Calado set the early pace on the opening day of testing from the Cooper Tires British F3 Series at Snetterton on Wednesday.

Racing Steps Foundation-backed Calado, who will drive a Volkswagen-powered Carlin vehicle in 2010, topped the time sheets early on in wet conditions, before going even quicker in the afternoon on a drying track.

Calado's Carlin team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne set the second quickest time of the day in the afternoon, whilst Kings Lynn racer Alex Brundle finished third after making his first outing in an International class F3 car at his home circuit. Brundle will compete for T-Sport this season in a Volkswagen Dallara.

After joining British F3 in 2009 with T-Sport, Adriano Buzaid impressed in his first test since signing for Carlin Motorsport by posting the fourth fastest time on day one. Carlin will field five cars in 2010, with Rupert Svendsen-Cook and Jazeman Jaafar finishing seventh and eleventh respectively.

Fortec's Oli Webb set the fifth quickest time in testing, with Hitech signing William Buller finishing sixth. The Mercedes-powered Raikkonen Robertson Racing Dallara of Carlos Huertas rounded out the top eight.

Testing continues at Snetterton on Thursday, ahead of a pre-season test at Oulton Park on 10 March.
